Competition Performance Team

Pacific Northwest Performing Arts offers serious performers an opportunity to participate in a musical theatre competition team we call CPT. This program is an incredible experience for students and families. The growth and bonds students experience from the start of the season in September to the end of the season in June is unmatched in any of our other programs!

The CPT Difference

At PNW Performing Arts, we believe students thrive when expectations are clear, relationships are strong, and accountability is rooted in growth. This belief shapes everything from our training structure and performance opportunities to our community standards and leadership programs.

We believe competition is not the goal—it is one of the tools we use to help students grow. Competition provides opportunities for students to challenge themselves, receive feedback, celebrate growth, and learn how to succeed with both humility and grace.

CPT also provides students with increased opportunities to perform throughout the year. We believe that growth happens not only in the classroom, but also through the experience of sharing work with an audience. Additional rehearsal, performance, and competition opportunities allow students to apply their training, build confidence, develop stage presence, and continue growing as artists and performers.

CPT is more than a competition team. It is a training, performance, and leadership program designed to help students develop as artists, teammates, and individuals. Through classes, rehearsals, performances, competitions, and community experiences, students build performance skills while also developing confidence, responsibility, resilience, communication, and collaboration.

Competitions

Some competitions do require travel. Team members are expected to be available Friday – Saturday for each competition weekend. Occasionally older students may get scheduled on a Thursday evening, competition depending. Exact competition schedules will be shared ASAP but often are not received until 7 – 14 days prior to competition dates.

Summer Stock

Pacific Northwest Performing Arts produces two shows each summer: one for all ages and one geared towards older students (usually 8th grade and up). CPT members are required to participate in one of the summer productions.

  • Costumes
  • Choreography Fee
  • Travel Expenses
  • Coaches Travel Fee
  • In-House Comp Fee
MONTHLY TUITION FEES

Please email info@pnwperformingarts.com for more details on tuition and fees.

CHOREOGRAPHY FEE

For every Solo, Duo, Trio, and group number there is a one-time choreography fee. This is a fee that covers the teacher’s time to choose the piece, pick and cut the music and track, often teachers may create the track just for that student, choreograph the piece, costume the piece, and coordinate the scheduling of the piece. Choreography fees will be due on September 5th and will be charged only one time for the season.

COSTUME FEES

Every competitive routine your child is in will require a costume. Once our instructors have picked the costumes for the pieces your child is in, you will be sent the links to purchase these pieces. If you can shop around and save money, that is fine and is left up to your discretion as long as the pieces the instructor has requested are purchased and brought in on the costume due date. In some cases, you will be able to look around on different sites for costume pieces but there will often be times you will have to purchase exactly what is provided in the costume link that is sent. This is often the case with a Solo, Duo and Trio costume where all the performers are in the exact same thing. There are also some cases where parents may have to reimburse Pacific Northwest Performing Arts for costumes that need to be ordered from sites that require studio licensing to order.

COMPETITION GEAR EXPENSE

Each performer will need the following items to participate on the CPT:

  • Team jacket (purchased through studio)
  • Team T-shirt (purchased through studio)
  • Black Leggings and/or solid black pants (can purchase leggings on your own or through Pacific Northwest Performing Arts when we open the store in the fall)
  • Black Jazz shoe (purchase on your own)
  • Character Shoes (depending on routines)
  • Base layers/foundations (purchase on your own)
COMPETITION EXPENSE

Attendance at competitions is mandatory for CPT performers. We will attend three required regional competitions this year PLUS our at home Pacific Northwest Performing Arts hosted In House Competition. For each competition there will be entry fees assessed by the competition. Each routine you participate in will have a fee attached to compete.

Our In-House Competition is a fun event with food, drinks and is a great way to kick off our competition season.

COMPETITION COACHES TRAVEL FEE

It is a no brainer that all the kids want their coach to be at all their competitions to support them. In the past both Pacific Northwest Performing Arts and coaches have covered the cost of travel. We are now passing a portion of the cost of your child’s coaches travel on to each family. This fee will cover the following costs to have our coaches travel with the kids:

  • Coaches’ daily stipend to be at the competitions. We have a flat daily stipend and a per routine stipend
  • Hotel room for each coach 2 or 3 nights
  • Gas stipend or airline ticket
  • Food stipend for meals

If you’d like a breakdown of the travel costs for teachers Corey is happy to explain further details.

The CPT Difference: why we do this

Our work is guided by five core beliefs:

Growth Over Perfection – We value progress over perfection. We believe learning happens through effort, reflection, persistence, and a willingness to keep growing.

Partnership – We believe students thrive when families, staff, and students work together. Strong relationships create strong communities.

Responsibility – We honor our commitments, communicate clearly, and take ownership of our actions. We believe accountability is an important part of both artistic and personal growth.

Community – We support one another, celebrate each other’s successes, and strive to create a culture where every student feels valued, welcomed, and connected.

Leadership – We believe the skills developed through the performing arts extend far beyond the stage. We strive to develop confident, capable, compassionate young people who positively impact the communities they are part of.

Some CPT students dream of pursuing careers in the arts. Others will go on to become teachers, engineers, business owners, healthcare professionals, or leaders in entirely different fields.

Regardless of where their path leads, our goal is the same: to help students develop the skills, habits, and confidence that will serve them throughout their lives.

Every aspect of CPT—from our training structure and performance opportunities to our attendance expectations, mentorship programs, and community standards—has been intentionally designed with these values in mind.

What Is CPT?

The PNW Performing Arts Competition Performance Team is organized by both age and level of participation, allowing students to engage in a training experience that best matches their goals, interests, and commitment level.

Whether a student is looking for an introduction to the competition experience or seeking a more intensive training path, CPT offers opportunities for growth at every stage of their artistic journey.

For a complete breakdown of training requirements, tuition, and participation expectations, please email us at info@pnwperformingarts.com.

Participation Levels

Minis
Our Mini team is designed for students in PreK–2nd Grade and serves as an introduction to the CPT experience. Students participate in weekly CPT training, additional musical theatre instruction, and perform two competition routines throughout the season.

Level 1 & Level 2
Levels 1 and 2 are designed for students and families seeking a balanced introduction to the CPT experience without the larger travel, time, and financial commitments associated with our more intensive levels.

Students participate in CPT rehearsals, supplemental training classes, local competitions, and studio showcases while developing foundational performance skills and learning what it means to be part of a team.

Level 3 & Level 4
Levels 3 and 4 are designed for students seeking a more comprehensive training and performance experience.

Because musical theatre artists are storytellers who use their voice, body, and imagination, students receive ongoing training in acting, singing, and dance while participating in competitions, showcases, and performance opportunities throughout the season.

These levels serve as CPT’s primary travel teams, providing students with opportunities to participate in regional and national events that expand their training, performance experience, and connection to the broader performing arts community.

Additional Performance Opportunities

Select Groups
Select Groups are optional, invitation-based performance opportunities designed for students who are ready for additional challenges and performance experiences. Placement is based on age, skill level, readiness, and the needs of the season.

Extra Work
Extra Work includes solos, duos, trios, and small groups. These opportunities allow students to explore individualized artistic goals while developing greater independence, performance confidence, and personal responsibility.

Participation is offered at the discretion of the Artistic Director and CPT staff and includes additional rehearsal, choreography, costume, and competition fees.

Junior Theatre Festival Group (optional for ages 9 and up)
The Junior Theatre Festival Group provides students with the opportunity to collaborate on a condensed musical theatre production that is presented at Junior Theatre Festival in Sacramento, California.

This experience emphasizes teamwork, storytelling, performance excellence, and artistic growth within a highly collaborative rehearsal environment. In addition to attending the festival, the group performs a competition version of the piece throughout the local competition season.
Students in this program participate in weekly rehearsals as well as additional special events and preparation opportunities leading up to the festival.

Our Five Pillars

Growth Over Perfection • Partnership • Responsibility • Community • Leadership

CPT COMMITMENTS: What We Commit To

CPT is a year-long commitment designed to provide students with meaningful opportunities to train, perform, connect, and grow. The experiences outlined below are core components of the program and are intended to help students develop both as performers and as teammates.

Competitions & Festivals

Competitions and festivals provide students with the opportunity to share their work, receive feedback from industry professionals, celebrate growth, and support one another as a team.

The CPT season typically runs from January through May and includes a combination of local competitions, performance opportunities, and festival experiences. Depending on a student’s level of participation, some events may require travel.

Competition schedules are created by the event producers and are often not finalized until one to two weeks prior to the event. Families should plan to be available for the entirety of competition weekends, as performance times can vary significantly.

While awards and recognition can be exciting, our primary focus is growth, learning, teamwork, and the opportunity to perform.

Showcases

All CPT students participate in PNW Performing Arts’ December and June Showcases.
These performances provide students with an opportunity to celebrate their progress, share their work with family and friends, and perform alongside the broader PNW Performing Arts community. Showcases are an important part of the CPT experience and help connect competition work to the larger mission of our studio.

Because CPT is part of a larger artistic community, showcases are also an opportunity for students and families to support fellow performers and celebrate the work happening across all areas of PNW Performing Arts. We ask CPT families to view these events not only as performances, but as opportunities to contribute to the success of the broader studio community.

Attendance at both showcases is an important expectation of CPT participation. Families may also be asked to assist with event needs as we work together to create a positive and successful experience for all students.

Summer Productions

PNW Performing Arts produces summer theatrical experiences for a variety of age groups each year.

While summer production participation is not required, CPT students are strongly encouraged to take part whenever possible. Summer productions provide valuable opportunities to apply training in a full production setting while building confidence, collaboration skills, and performance experience.

Many students find that summer productions strengthen both their artistry and their connection to the CPT community.

Communication Tools

Clear communication is essential to a successful CPT season. Families are expected to regularly utilize the communication tools provided by PNW Performing Arts.

CPT Website
The CPT Website serves as the primary hub for schedules, resources, competition information, forms, and important updates. Families should bookmark the site and reference it regularly throughout the season.

The website contains important information regarding competition requirements, including required footwear, foundations, costume pieces, accessories, makeup guidelines, packing lists, and other items students may be expected to provide for performances and events.

During the fall, families should regularly review the website for information related to costumes, required purchases, deadlines, and season preparation. During competition season, the website will also serve as the primary location for competition schedules, event details, travel information, and schedule updates.

Staying familiar with the information posted on the CPT Website is an important part of being prepared for a successful season.

PNWPA App
The PNWPA App is our primary communication tool during competitions, festivals, and major events. Families should download the app and enable notifications to receive important updates throughout the season.

Weekly Newsletter
A weekly newsletter is distributed via email and posted within the app. This newsletter serves as the primary source for upcoming dates, reminders, announcements, and important information.

Staying informed is a shared responsibility and one of the best ways families can help ensure a smooth and successful season.

PARTNERSHIP & COMMUNICATION: How We Work Together

One of the greatest strengths of CPT is the partnership between students, families, and staff. When we work together with clear communication, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to student growth, everyone benefits.

Our goal is to create an environment where students feel challenged, supported, and empowered to succeed. We ask families to help us foster a culture of accountability, encouragement, kindness, and collaboration both inside and outside the studio.

CPT Parent Expectations

Parents and families play an important role in the success of CPT. We view our families as partners in helping students grow as performers, teammates, leaders, and people.
Being part of CPT requires an ongoing commitment from both students and families. We ask parents and guardians to stay informed, engaged, and connected throughout the season by regularly utilizing the communication tools provided, reviewing updates, meeting deadlines, and staying current on program expectations.

We also ask families to contribute to the success of the team and broader studio community through volunteer support, event participation, and a willingness to work together in service of our students. CPT is strongest when students, families, and staff approach the season as partners working toward a shared goal: helping young people grow through the performing arts.

Supporting Your Student

One of the most valuable ways families can support their student is by encouraging growth, effort, responsibility, and resilience. Every student’s journey is unique, and we encourage families to focus on individual progress rather than comparing placements, opportunities, or achievements with those of others.

Supporting the CPT Community

We ask all CPT families to help foster a positive, welcoming, and supportive environment. Celebrate the successes of others, encourage teamwork, and model the respect and professionalism we hope to see in our students.

Those same values extend beyond the walls of our studio and into the broader performing arts community.

Representing Our Community

CPT families play an important role in shaping the culture and reputation of our program.
Whether attending competitions, performances, festivals, studio events, or interacting online, parents and guardians are ambassadors for the values of PNW Performing Arts. We ask families to model the same respect, professionalism, kindness, and sportsmanship that we strive to instill in our students.

We encourage families to celebrate the successes of all students, support fellow team members, communicate respectfully, and contribute positively to the experience of our community.
Questions and concerns are welcome and should be addressed through direct communication with CPT staff rather than through gossip, speculation, or social media discussions. We believe that strong communities are built through trust, respect, and a shared commitment to supporting students.

Just as we ask our students to represent our team with integrity, we ask our families to do the same.

Competition Supervision

Competitions are exciting and often busy events. Parents and guardians remain responsible for supervising their children outside of scheduled rehearsals, performances, and designated CPT activities. While CPT is a close-knit community, students should always know who is responsible for their care and supervision throughout an event.

Communication

We value open, respectful, and solution-focused communication. If questions or concerns arise, we encourage families to reach out through the appropriate channels so we can work together to support students and maintain a positive experience for everyone.

Student, parent, and teacher conferences are always available upon request. We believe that most challenges are best addressed through direct communication, shared understanding, and a commitment to finding solutions together.

Navigating Challenges Together

Just as we encourage our students to approach challenges with honesty, accountability, and a commitment to growth, we strive to do the same as a community.

Questions, misunderstandings, frustrations, and disagreements are a natural part of any collaborative environment. When concerns arise, we ask families to approach them with curiosity, direct communication, and a willingness to work toward solutions together.

We are committed to listening, learning, and addressing concerns thoughtfully. In return, we ask families to bring questions directly to the appropriate staff members and to assume positive intent as we work together to support students.

Our goal is not to avoid challenges, but to navigate them in ways that strengthen relationships, build trust, and model the values we hope to instill in our students.

Attendance & Commitment

CPT is a team-based training and performance program. When students join CPT, they are making a commitment to their own growth, their teammates, and the collective success of the group.

Consistent attendance helps students build skills, strengthen relationships, and fully participate in the creative process. It also develops important life skills such as responsibility, communication, preparation, and follow-through.

We understand that illness, family events, school obligations, and unexpected circumstances are part of life. Our expectation is not perfect attendance. Our expectation is that students and families treat their CPT commitment seriously, communicate proactively when conflicts arise, and make every effort to be present, prepared, and engaged.

When you make a commitment to a team, your teammates are counting on you.

Show Up Fully. Communicate Clearly. Take Responsibility.

Preparedness and Communication

Students are expected to arrive on time, prepared, and ready to contribute. Being “on time” means arriving in the proper attire and footwear, with all required materials, and ready to begin work when class starts.

If a student will be absent, arrive late, or need to leave early, families should notify the studio as soon as possible. Planned absences should be submitted through the designated absence form. Same-day absences due to illness or unexpected circumstances should be reported directly to the studio office.

Timely communication allows instructors to plan effectively and demonstrates respect for teammates and staff.

Participation & Responsibility

Students are responsible for catching up on any material missed during an absence. This may include reviewing rehearsal videos, obtaining notes, learning choreography, practicing music, reviewing staging changes, and reaching out to teammates or instructors for support before returning to class.

We encourage students to view their teammates as resources and collaborators. Seeking help, sharing information, and supporting one another are important parts of being a member of the CPT community.

When appropriate, injured students may still be asked to attend rehearsals as observers so they can remain engaged in the learning process.

Being a good teammate means taking ownership of your learning and making every effort to return prepared and ready to contribute.

Impact of Repeated Absences

Because CPT is a collaborative performance program, repeated absences may affect a student’s ability to participate in certain performance opportunities, featured moments, leadership responsibilities, solos, or competition assignments.

This is particularly true when missed rehearsals impact preparedness or the ability to safely and successfully perform assigned material.

The weeks leading up to performances and competitions are especially important, as rehearsals focus on refining and finalizing material.

Attendance concerns will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, taking into consideration communication, effort to catch up on missed material, the needs of the team, and the student’s overall participation throughout the season.

While our goal is always to support student growth and find solutions whenever possible, extended or repeated absences may result in adjustments to a student’s participation, performance opportunities, competition assignments, leadership responsibilities, or other team commitments.

Because every situation is unique, these decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis with the best interests of both the student and the team in mind.

Our goal is always to support student growth while ensuring that all team members are set up for success.

Staying informed is a shared responsibility and one of the best ways families can help ensure a smooth and successful season.

CPT COMMUNITY STANDARDS

The standards outlined in this section are designed to support a positive, challenging, and respectful environment where students can learn, take risks, grow, and thrive.

At CPT, we believe that who we are is just as important as what we achieve. We strive to build a community where students support one another, embrace growth, take responsibility for their actions, and contribute positively to the team around them.

The CPT Way:  Who we choose to be
  1. We are artists, teammates and leaders.
  2. We pursue growth over perfection.
  3. We compare ourselves to who we were yesterday, not to who someone else is today.
  4. We take care of ourselves and each other.
  5. We celebrate the successes of others.
  6. We choose gratitude and generosity.
  7. We embrace challenges and remain open to learning.
  8. We show respect for our teammates, our teachers, our studio, and ourselves.
  9. We honor our commitments.
  10. We show up fully, communicate clearly, and take responsibility.

Studio Etiquette: How we learn together

Great rehearsals happen when everyone contributes to a focused, respectful, and productive learning environment. The expectations below help create a space where all students can learn, grow, and thrive.

Be Prepared

  • Arrive on time, dressed appropriately, and ready to work.
  • Bring all required materials, including music, scripts, pencils, water bottles, and any other items requested by instructors.
  • Come ready to actively participate and contribute to the rehearsal process.

Be Present

  • Remain engaged and focused during class and rehearsal.
  • Use phones and electronic devices only with instructor permission.
  • Participate fully and bring your best effort to each class.

Be Respectful

  • Treat teammates, teachers, staff, volunteers, and guests with kindness and respect.
  • Listen when others are speaking and allow everyone the opportunity to learn and contribute.
  • Respect the studio space, props, costumes, equipment, and materials.

Be Responsible

  • Store personal belongings in designated areas.
  • Clean up after yourself and help leave spaces better than you found them.
  • Take ownership of your actions, choices, and responsibilities.

Be Supportive

  • Encourage and celebrate the successes of others.
  • Contribute positively to the culture of the team.
  • Help create an environment where every student feels welcomed, valued, and supported.

Dress Code: How we prepare ourselves to do the work

Our dress code is designed to support safe movement, effective instruction, and a professional learning environment. Students should wear clothing and footwear that allow them to move freely while enabling instructors to clearly see alignment, posture, and technique.

Learning how to arrive prepared, equipped, and ready to work is an important part of the CPT experience and helps students develop habits that will serve them both inside and outside the studio.

These expectations extend beyond CPT. Whether students pursue careers in the performing arts or other fields, learning to understand and meet the expectations of a professional environment is an important life skill. In many professional training and audition settings, arriving unprepared or without appropriate attire may limit a student’s ability to participate or be considered for opportunities. We view dress code not simply as a rule, but as part of learning professionalism, preparation, and respect for the work.

Footwear

Proper footwear is essential for safe movement and technical development.

  • Students should arrive in the footwear required for their classes and CPT routines.
  • Required footwear may include jazz shoes, character shoes, tennis shoes, tap shoes, or other shoes designated by instructors.
  • Students are expected to bring the appropriate footwear to each rehearsal once shoes have been assigned for a routine.
  • Students may be asked to modify participation if proper footwear is not available.
Clothing

Students should wear clothing that allows for safe movement and enables instructors to clearly see alignment and technique.

  • Clothing should be comfortable, movement-friendly, and appropriate for physical activity.
  • Extremely restrictive or excessively oversized clothing that interferes with movement or instruction may not be permitted.
  • Students should be prepared to participate fully in all aspects of class and rehearsal.
Professional Habits

Students are encouraged to develop habits that help them feel prepared and confident throughout the season.

We recommend that CPT students maintain a dedicated rehearsal bag containing:

  • Required footwear
  • Water bottle
  • Pencil
  • Music binder or folder
  • Any materials needed for rehearsal

CPT students are encouraged to utilize their assigned locker as a home base for shoes, music, supplies, and other rehearsal essentials. Learning to keep materials organized, accessible, and performance-ready is an important part of the CPT experience and helps students develop habits of preparation, responsibility, and independence.

Being prepared allows students to focus on learning, contributing to the team, and making the most of their training experience.

Representing Our Team: How We Show Up Beyond The Studio

CPT students represent PNW Performing Arts both inside and outside the studio. Whether attending a competition, participating in a festival, interacting on social media, or supporting teammates backstage, students are ambassadors for our community and our values.

Our goal is to be known not only for the quality of our performances, but also for our kindness, professionalism, preparation, sportsmanship, and respect for others.

Be Prepared
Students are expected to arrive at events with all required costumes, shoes, accessories, and performance materials.

Learning to prepare in advance, stay organized, and take responsibility for personal belongings is an important part of the CPT experience.

Support Your Team
CPT is a team experience. Students are encouraged to watch performances, cheer on teammates, celebrate successes, and contribute positively to the team environment.

We believe one of the greatest gifts we can give one another is our support.

Represent the Team Professionally
Team apparel helps create a sense of unity, pride, and professionalism. Students will be asked to wear designated CPT apparel during competitions, festivals, awards ceremonies, and other team events.

Students should conduct themselves in a way that reflects the values of PNW Performing Arts and contributes positively to the reputation of our community.

Practice Good Sportsmanship
We celebrate effort, growth, and achievement—both our own and that of others.
Students are expected to demonstrate gratitude, humility, and respect regardless of scores, rankings, placements, or outcomes.

Be Respectful Online
Social media is an extension of our community.

Students are expected to use social media responsibly and respectfully. Posts, comments, messages, photos, and videos should reflect the values of CPT and contribute positively to the experience of others.

Bullying, harassment, exclusionary behavior, gossip, inappropriate content, or negative comments about teammates, instructors, competitors, studios, adjudicators, or events are not consistent with CPT values and may result in intervention from CPT staff.

Respect Every Space
Whether in a dressing room, theater, classroom, hotel, restaurant, or competition venue, students are expected to leave spaces better than they found them and treat all facilities, staff, volunteers, and fellow performers with respect.

Celebrate the Full Experience
Competitions and festivals are about more than scores and awards. They are opportunities to perform, learn, connect, receive feedback, and grow.

Students are expected to attend awards ceremonies whenever possible and to celebrate the achievements of all performers with professionalism, gratitude, and respect.

Behavior & Accountability: How We Grow Through Challenges

At CPT, accountability is not about punishment. It is about helping students align their actions with the values of our community.

As members of CPT, students commit to being part of a community built on respect, responsibility, kindness, growth, and support for one another. We believe that who we are is just as important as what we achieve.

We recognize that students are still learning. Mistakes will happen. Conflict will happen. Challenges will arise. Our goal is not perfection. Our goal is growth.

When concerns arise, we work with students to understand the impact of their choices, take responsibility when appropriate, repair harm when possible, and develop the skills needed to move forward successfully.

The CPT Way applies both inside and outside the studio, including at competitions, performances, community events, and on social media.

Our Approach to Accountability

When behavior concerns arise, we seek to approach them with both compassion and accountability.

Whenever appropriate, students may be asked to:

  • Reflect on their choices and actions.
  • Consider the impact of their behavior on others.
  • Repair harm or rebuild trust when needed
  • Develop strategies for making better choices in the future.
  • Recommit to the values and expectations of the CPT community.

We believe accountability is most meaningful when it helps students learn, strengthen relationships, and grow as individuals.

Additional Support & Intervention

The response to a behavior concern will depend on the nature, frequency, and severity of the situation.

Possible interventions may include:

  • Coaching conversations
  • Reflection activities
  • Parent communication or meetings
  • Behavior improvement plans
  • Adjustments to participation opportunities
  • Temporary removal from specific activities
  • Removal from CPT when necessary

PNW Performing Arts reserves the right to determine appropriate interventions based on the circumstances of each situation.

Behaviors that compromise the safety, well-being, dignity, or belonging of others may require immediate intervention and may result in more significant consequences.

Our Commitment

We believe that every student is capable of growth. Our responsibility as educators is not only to help students become stronger performers, but also stronger teammates, leaders, and people.

When challenges arise, our goal is always the same: to help students learn, repair harm, rebuild trust, and continue moving forward as valued members of our community.

COMMUNITY & LEADERSHIP: how we support one another

At CPT, we believe some of the most meaningful learning happens through relationships.

While training, performances, and competitions are important parts of the experience, they are only part of the story. We strive to create a community where students feel connected, supported, encouraged, and inspired by the people around them.

Through mentorship, leadership opportunities, shared experiences, and team traditions, students learn what it means to contribute to something larger than themselves.

Bigs & Littles – Building Connection Through Mentorship

Our Bigs & Littles program is designed to foster connection, belonging, and leadership across age groups.

Each younger student is paired with an older student who serves as a mentor, role model, and source of encouragement throughout the season. Bigs and Littles participate in special activities, celebrations, and community-building opportunities designed to strengthen relationships across the team.

We believe students grow best when they feel connected to a larger community. The Bigs & Littles program helps create opportunities for friendship, support, leadership, and belonging while reinforcing the idea that every student has something valuable to contribute.

While Bigs serve as mentors, role models, and sources of encouragement throughout the season, they are not responsible for supervising younger students or serving as caregivers during rehearsals, competitions, or events unless specific arrangements have been made by families.

Leadership Opportunities – Learning To Lead By Example

Leadership at CPT is not defined by age, titles, solos, or awards. We believe leadership is demonstrated through responsibility, kindness, preparation, integrity, and a willingness to positively impact those around us.

We believe leadership is a skill that can be learned and practiced, and that every student has the capacity to positively influence the people around them.

Throughout the season, students may have opportunities to serve as mentors, team leaders, ambassadors, helpers, or role models within the CPT community.

We encourage all students to view themselves as leaders and to look for opportunities to support teammates, welcome new members, celebrate the successes of others, and contribute positively to the culture of the team.

Team Traditions – Building Community Through Shared Experiences

Some of the strongest memories students make in CPT happen outside of performances and competitions.

Throughout the year, CPT participates in traditions, celebrations, service opportunities, social events, and community-building activities that help strengthen relationships and create a sense of belonging.

These experiences remind us that while we may perform as individuals and groups, we are ultimately part of one larger community.

Our traditions may evolve from year to year, but their purpose remains the same: to build connection, celebrate growth, and create lasting memories together.
